Oregon coast

Cape Arago a few days after Thanksgiving.
I don't know if there's a more beautiful place in the world...

Sometimes, I just don't understand this town.
Outhouse anyone?

succulents

Playing with my dad's macro lens and ring strobe.
We're still learning how to use it, so the light isn't perfect yet.

Pushkin

The only two times the crazy dog would stop wiggling and dancing.
Annoying creature.
Also, I think he's part rabbit. And OK, not the most amazingly creative pictures,
but I'm still jet-lagged. And he's cute.

the death of peronismo?

 Monument to the May Revolution.
The day after former president Nestor Kirchner, and husband of current president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, died of a heart attack.
All pictures:

From top: Flags fly from the gate separating the Casa Rosada from the Monument to the May Revolution. Mourners and the curious gather by the gate.

A mourner affixes a single rose to the memorial wall.

Waiting in line for the velorio, or viewing, in the Casa Rosada.
There were people camped overnight in the plaza.

From top: "Fuerza Cristina," a popular sentiments on the cards, notes, banners and messages spray-painted on buildings around the plaza.

They called Kirchner, el pingüino because he came from the province of Santa Cruz, in the south.

From top: The liner of mourners wishing to enter the Casa Rosada stretches multiple blocks along Avenida de Mayo.

Headline from the local free newspaper.

**I'm going to be a bad J-school graduate and state that I do not support los kirchneristas, justicialistas or peronistas

the mighty elephant seal

Male elephant seal napping on the beach.
I think elephant seals are one of the most bizarre creatures ever.
It's all open sea and deep diving for strange ocean creatures for most of the year, then fighting, mating (hopefully) and sleeping.
Look at all the scars on his face.

buttons

Strings of buttons at the San Telmo covered market.
I like how the red buttons on the left look like surprised faces,
and how all the buttons are reds and beiges, except those two strings of bright blue in the middle.

hello young lovers...

Public displays of porteño affection in Plaza Armenia.
I was a creeper, but they didn't notice me...phew.
I still get shy about photographing people.
